After a presidential election in May where no candidate secured at least half the votes, Gustavo Petro won the run-off election. His win makes him the first left-wing candidate to become president of Colombia. Joining us on A Public Affair to talk about why this win serves as a beacon of hope around the world is Andrei Gómez-Suárez.
Andrei Gómez-Suárez is is a Colombian writer, international relations scholar, and peace building practitioner. He is Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Religion, Reconciliation and Peace at the University of Winchester. He is co-founder of the peace organization Rodeemos el Diálogo (Embrace Dialogue). He has a PhD in International Relations from the University of Sussex.
